Using The Stick With The Adjustment
As a chiropractor I get a lot of patients that come in with pain in areas of the body from headaches to sprained ankles. This pain is caused by joints that are not working right. When our joints don't move the way they are supposed to they can cause nerve irritation and inflammation. This can lead to muscle spasm and painfull trigger points. Trigger points are contracted fibers that feel like a knot or bump in the muscle. They cause pain, weakness, and stiffness. The host muscle often aches and fatigues during minimal exertion. When I move these bones and joints back to the way they are supposed to move (called a chiropractic adjustment) it relieves nerve irritation and restores funtionality. In order for the adjustment to last I always do therapeutic muscle work prior to adjusting the patient. This muscle work is in the form pushing down on the muscle to decrease spasm, then using an Intracell Stick (pictured above) to roll out the trigger points and any lactic acid build-up. My patients know the stick as "Roller Bob" and "he" has helped immensely in decreasing muscle pain and trigger points. He also improves flexibility. I use Roller Bob before I stretch any part of a patient's body. This warms up the patient's muscles to improve the stretch and to let the adjustment last longer.
